Sailing - I have always been drawn to the sea and something about the wind through the rigging makes me feel at home on the water at the helm. I am currently the Half Moon Yacht Association Offshore Fleet Captain where I keep busy racing and teaching basic keelboat sailing courses. Over the last 22 years I have owned over 10 boats both power and sail plus a few dinghies that I lost count of. The rest as they say is history. I have put together a list of my favorite sailing reference books for a guide to those interested in becoming an old salt. My favorite sailing related Website is Latitude 38, which I read on a daily basis.
Woodworking - At age 8 I was building wooden toy boats. I build my first china cabinet for my sister at age 14. I built my first real boat at age 16, which was a 10 foot dory made from marine plywood. After putting in 1500 screws by hand and then later fiber glassed the bottom I decided that boat building should be left to the experts. The boat was my ticket to learning to sail, which I did on every available occasion. I have lost count of my woodworking projects over the years, but I can safely say that I have developed my skill with wood to a fine art that few can exceed.
SCUBA Diving - I have been diving regularly for the last ten years, mostly in Monterey Bay and Carmel Canyon in California. Most recently I have been laying mooring for the yacht club for the last three years in the Arabian Gulf's, Half Moon Bay. It is challenging work installing helix screw anchors in 20 feet of water in a sand bottom. Once you stir up the bottom you are working in zero visibility with sand all around you. The key is to stay calm and focus on the work; easier said then done.
Home Computer and Gaming - I have always been interested in PC's but lately I have been building my own system to use as a development platform, photo and video editing and a gaming box.
